Conditions Of Latin American Thought. A Possible Perspective From The Works Of Ortega, Ramos, And Gaos
Abstract
This article examines how the theories of circumstantialism
and perspectivism by Ortega and Gasset contributed to a theoretical
justification of the theories by Latin American thinkers
from the first half of the twentieth century. These thinkers refused
to mimic trends and instead created their own theories.
These theories then went on to influence Samuel Ramos and
were further developed by José Gaos. In particular, this article
will demonstrate how these thinkers refuted the arguments
of universalism, which questioned the possibility of Latin
America’s own philosophy, and further developed Latin American
theories.
Keywords: Theories, Ortega y Gasset, Samuel Ramos, José
Gaos.
