Employment And Social Integration Of Arab Communities In Medium-Sized Cities In Chile During The Twentieth Century: The Case Of Quillota

Abstract

Arab communities established in various medium and small cities of Chile applied similar strategies to settle and integrate into the host society. From the analysis of the Arab community established in Quillota we hope to understand the evolutionary process that has lived the immigrant community throughout Chile, Santiago except through a century. Economic integration and social displayed their ability to adapt to the environment and inserted properly into the labor market by making good use of their social and cultural capital. Although it is a small community were transformed into a social group with outstanding leadership, with outstanding public visibility as a result of their active participation in public activity instead host.
