Reflections On Chilean Politics In The Middle Of The Ninetieth Century: Political Parties And The Catholic Church
Abstract
This article reflects on Chilean politics and the origins of the political parties system in the middle of the 19th century, within the Nation State building process. It is develop from a transnational perspective understanding the emergence of political parties within the political and ideological disputes in Europe and Latin America. This allow us to understand the clerical and anti-clerical stances which developed the political parties system, placing the role of the Catholic Church and the “cuestión del Sacristán” juncture in a broad context.
