Abstract

The cultural turn advanced the study of ancient societies to
highlight the importance of structuring the discursive sagas. Many
social scientists agreed on the new meaning of the language and
practices, and no consensus at all, given to such aspects of social
life a relational power almost absolute. Thus, the emphasis of the
cultural conditions of social relations, postulated that the material
conditions were perceived through the experiences and symbolic
measures and social life exists only in and through cultural activities
historically mediated. This essay proposes a critical review of
the impact of this shift in the field of social history, focusing on
routes and challenges of family history.
