Abstract

This paper studies the meaning of the Atacama Puna for the Chilean and Argentinean surrounding populations and for the natural and social scientific research, as an attempt to offer this space demographic and commercial convergence dating from pre-hispanic times, and whose geological studies started during the Chilean - Argentinean border dispute for the Puna space. In this sense, sciences have shown economic complementarities between both indigenous and national populations, a reality that has become a long-term link in South American geography.
